Isabel Muller, Business Partner for the Business Support division in Dundee, was recently awarded as ‘Recruitment consultant of the year’ at the S1jobs Recruitment Awards 2022. This isn’t the first time Isabel has won: she was crowned top consultant in 2018 and 2019, as well as being shortlisted in 2021.
The award is testament to Isabel’s determination, customer focused approach and in-depth market knowledge. Her skills and drive allow her to consistently understand her clients’ needs and place candidates in roles where they can thrive.
We caught up with Isabel to congratulate her on the win, discuss her journey so far and get her best practice recruitment tips for aspiring consultants.
How does it feel to have won recruitment consultant of the year for the third time?
The feeling of being in a room with the top recruitment professionals of the country and being recognised in such a way is amazing – just amazing! Although the word doesn’t do the feeling justice, it’s still my go-to to describe how it felt.
What’s been the key ingredient to your career success as Business Partner?
The key to being successful is loving what you do and having the constant drive to be better than the day before. I apply this to my job, my health, fitness and relationships in and out of work. My commitment to professionalism and high service standards is achieved through continuous improvement, self-awareness and an ability to adapt quickly to an ever changing market.
What motivates you?
The people around me, my clients, my candidates, my colleagues – as cheesy as it may sound, winning and delivering on a recruitment project nine years into my recruitment career still gives me the same buzz it did in year one. There’s no better feeling than understanding exactly what a client or candidate needs and knowing you will deliver the very best.
What best practice recruitment advice would you give to aspiring consultants?
Consistency is key!
Did you receive any advice during your early career that really resonated with you?
Working in recruitment, you will go through highs and lows – we are dealing with people, and no matter how hard you work or what you do to manage a process, people can always surprise you. I remember my first manager telling me that I was too hard on myself when something didn’t go as expected. It was completely true: the best recruiter in the world has low points and changing the way you view those is what makes a good recruiter great – learn from it and move on.
What do you enjoy about working at Search?
There is so much I love about working at Search, which is why I’ve been here seven years and counting. The people are amazing and absolutely make this business what it is. But the freedom to be yourself, the opportunities to progress, the recognition for hard work and the ways the business continues to make sure we are the best we can possibly be, is what keeps me engaged. There hasn’t been a time where I have felt bored or where I’ve thought ‘Where can I go from here?’ There is always a way to make your career even better than you ever thought it could be at Search.
From joining Search seven years ago as a Recruitment Consultant to becoming a Business Partner and integral part of our leadership team, Bella is evidence of what you can achieve when you put your mind to it. Her work ethic, drive and determination make her the perfect role model to our team and across the wider company, and to be recognised externally with a host of award wins is testament to her success – well done Bella!
